- Innovator 2023 award in the ‘Digital’ category for pioneering developments for the mobility of tomorrow
- AI-supported function ‘Automatic Diagnosis’ increases overall efficiency of professional vehicle repairs
Every year, the Innovation Award, initiated by CLEPA (European Association of Automotive Suppliers), honours outstanding research and development work for the mobility of tomorrow. ‘Digital’ and ‘Green’ were the central topics in the eighth edition of the international competition. A jury of around 30 members decided on the Top Innovators 2023 for both categories, which were announced on 18 October 2023 in Brussels: in the ‘Digital’ category, Hella Gutmann Solutions is delighted to have received the Top Innovator award for the development of ‘Automatic Diagnosis’. The international jury members from science, industry and research centres were impressed with the groundbreaking development of the ‘Automatic Diagnosis’ function recently implemented in the mega macs diagnostic software. Hella Gutmann Solutions has succeeded in automating fault diagnostics, one of the most common activities in automotive workshops, with the help of AI and Big Data technology. The world’s first automation of diagnostics in this form significantly increases the overall efficiency of a vehicle repair. “Receiving the CLEPA Innovation Award is a great honour for Hella Gutmann Solutions and we are proud to be able to make a small contribution to securing the future of independent workshops with this innovation”, says Hella Gutmann Solutions CSO, Jörg Schläfke, who accepted the prestigious award. “We assume that Automatic Diagnosis will soon be a standard feature of everyday workshop life. Initial feedback from European workshops confirms a roughly 25 percent acceleration in diagnostics and more accurate parts ordering.”
The ‘Automatic Diagnosis’ function has recently become available at no extra cost to workshops using a current diagnostic device from Hella Gutmann Solutions. It combines the experience and data from 30 years of system diagnostics on vehicles with artificial intelligence (AI). If automatic mode is selected, an entire process chain runs automatically in less than five minutes. It identifies the vehicle identification number (VIN), reads out stored faults, evaluates their relevance, compares actual and target values in the system parameters and consults around two billion data records of historic diagnostic cases. The automated process ends with narrowing down the cause of the fault to a specific component. Humans remain responsible for verifying the identified cause and carrying out the repair.
